The new IPad Pro is here at last and as much as it brings a serious excitement to the table ,some serious questions are also in their own place to which only the consumers shall have the answers to.

The IPad comes with two variants when it comes to screen sizes, one being the 12.9 — inch and the other being an 11 incher. Now both the IPads have one thing in common to which no other tablet has the answer to at the moment: The M1.

The last year’s Apple silicon chips have made their way to the IPads this year.
The last year’s Apple Silicon chips have made their way to the IPads this year.

Last year we had the IPads with the “then new” A12Z chip which was a decent upgrade from its predecessor i.e. A12X. Not that those weren’t designed by apple themselves, as a matter of fact, they were designed specifically for the IPads due to which a lot of people might be underestimating the M1 IPads as of now as the M1 was supposed to be for the MacBooks, IMac and the likes. So if you’re one of the ones underestimating it, KINDLY DON’T.

What we are witnessing here are the benchmarks getting blown away out of proportions and since this chip originally belongs to the MacBooks, internally the IPad and the MacBook Air are exactly the same which implies 8- core CPU, 8- core GPU, 16-core neural engine and moreover this time Apple is not being Apple and has disclosed how much RAM is in these tablets, that being 8GB in the lower storage variant and 16GB in the subsequent versions which as I stated earlier brings not only the excitement and the curiosity factor but also raises many eyebrows(Pun Intended). It raises many many and many questions, the most important one being the future existence of the Apple’s own best selling laptop — The Air.

Now lets get to yet another highlight that the 2021 IPad Pro 12.9 (and I mean only the 12.9) brings right in front, yes in front — The New Liquid Retina XDR Display. This is a mini LED display with around 10k mini LEDs sitting right at the back of your screen. What it means is basically it has a much brighter display, a higher contrast ratio and a full HDR support (Far more superior than MacBook Air) which makes this probably the best device for watching some high quality content and MacBook Air probably the worst.

Camera capabilities of the IPads too have been ,upgraded though not that much and neither does it need to really (Somethings are done just for you to infer that many things are done). There’s an addition of a feature called Center Stage which might be useful for some but really not a big leap from what it was.

At this point what’s acting as a limiting force for the IPads are their software itself. Now don’t get me wrong, the IPad OS is decent enough for any tablet out there in the world right now but with the addition of M1, the expectations have gone through the roof and the current OS doesn’t give you much authority and control as much as it should. Maybe the updates will come in handy and maybe it bridges the gap but right now, all these speculations are for keeps.

Now all this I have stated leads me to where I began, The Questions. For starters IPad Pro shall start with a price tag of around 72k for the 11 inch version and around 99k for the 12.9 inch which will go all the way upto 1,98,000(approx) which to a lot of buyers is subjective, as in if they’re into a lot of content consumption but yet again raises a question here that if its the performance you’re after, would you rather go for the MacBook Air or the IPad, afterall, the Air is cheaper with the same internals, it has a proper keyboard and a trackpad and has the Mac OS which is leaps forward to the IPad’s.

But as they say, if you’ve made up your mind, you’ve made up your mind.
